Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Saturday apprehended Debasis Nayak, a Revenue Inspector (RI) at Krandibili Circle of Phiringia Tehsil in Kandhamal district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.
The accused RI had sought the bribe from a landowner (complainant) who had prepared bricks on his land for personal use.
A Vigilance press release said that Nayak had threatened to take action against the complainant if the demanded bribe was not paid.
After receiving the complaint, Vigilance officials launched an operation and nabbed Nayak while he was in the act of accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 7,000 was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to Nayak, focusing on the Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 4/2025, Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigation is in progress and further details are awaited.
