Chandigarh: At a quick ceremony in Chandigarh on Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Haryana after Manohar Lal Khattar met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and resigned along with his Cabinet ministers.
BJP’s JP Dalal, Moolchand Sharma, Banwari Lal, and Kanwar Pal Gurjar, all from the old Cabinet, also took oath as ministers along with Saini.
Khattar and his Cabinet colleagues had resigned earlier in the day following a breakdown of ties between the ruling BJP and Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) over seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state.
Saini, a confidante of ML Khattar, is from OBC community and has been serving in the party for a long time. Following is his political career in short:
1996: He was given the responsibility to organise Haryana BJP.
2002: Became district general secretary of Ambala BJP Yuva Morcha.
2005: Appointed the district president of BJP Ambala Yuva Morcha. He was also made the state general secretary of BJP Haryana Kisan Morcha.
2012: Appointed district president of Ambala.
2014: Contested the Assembly elections from Naraingarh and won.
2016: Joined Khattar Cabinet as Minister.
2019: Won Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency by a massive 3.85 lakh votes.
2023: Appointed as Haryana BJP president.
