Royal Enfield Interceptor Best Selling Motorcycle In UK
Chennai: Indian maker Royal Enfield’s Interceptor 650 has become the best selling motorcycle in the UK in June. It has been the highest-selling motorcycle in the middle-weight segment (250cc-750cc) for the last 12 months, according to Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) data.
Royal Enfield’s Himalayan is at number four position as well.
Royal Enfield calls it the first-of-its-kind feat by any Indian two-wheeler manufacturer selling in the UK.
“Our vision is to expand and lead the middleweight motorcycling segment across the world. Towards this vision and further strengthening our position as a truly global brand, Royal Enfield has been consistently focusing on widening its footprint in international markets and creating engaging experiences for enthusiasts,” Royal Enfield CEO Vinod K Dasari said. The Interceptor 650 was launched in September 2018 and it is priced at approximately ₹2.83 lakh in Bhubaneswar.
The company has become one of the fastest-growing motorcycles brands in the UK, he said. Royal Enfield has 67 customer touch-points there.
Interestingly, the brand has its origins in Redditch, UK, and was known for supplying motorcycles in both the World Wars. The first motorcycle was made in 1901 and it is currently the oldest two-wheeler brand still in production. In 1955, the company partnered with Madras Motors in India to form ‘Enfield India’ to assemble the Bullet 350.
