‘RRR’ Bags 5 Nominations At Critics Choice Awards; Check The Categories
Chennai: Days after bagging two Golden Globe nominations, ‘RRR’ has found its place at the 28th Critics Choice Awards.
SS Rajamouli’s period action film secured as many as five nominations – for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song for Telugu track Naatu Naatu and Best Visual Effects categories.
The nominations were announced by the Los Angeles-based Critics Choice Association on its official website. The winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony on January 15, 2023 at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The megahit movie — starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn among others — is the year’s highest-grossing Indian film.
‘RRR’ will be competing with ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Babylon’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Everything Everywhere At Once’, ‘The Fabelmans’, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, ‘Tar’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Women Talking’ for the best picture.
In the Best Director category, Rajamouli will be up against James Cameron (Avatar: The Way of Water), Damien Chazelle (Babylon), Todd Field (Tar), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere At Once), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin), Sarah Polley (Women Talking), Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King) and Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans).
The other contenders for Best Foreign Language Film are ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, ‘Decision To Leave’, ‘Argentina’, ‘1985’, ‘Bardo’, ‘False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths and Close’.
Other nominees in Best Song category are — Carolina (Where The Crawdads Sing), Ciao Papa (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio), Hold My Hand(Top Gun: Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and New Body Rhumba (White Noise).
In the Best Visual Effects category, ‘RRR’ will compete against ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Everything Everywhere At Once’.
