Sambalpur: The Income Tax (IT) department sleuths have seized Rs 1.5 crore in cash from a local businessman in Odisha’s Sambalpur, which will be going to polls on May 25.
The seizure was made following a raid on the premises of a persons, who is into transportation business, in Khetrajpur area on Tuesday. While the identity of the businessman has not been undisclosed, investigation is on to ascertain the source and if the cash was stashed away on the premises to influence voters ahead of the elections. The businessman’s financial records and transactions are being examined for any connections to political activities or violations of election regulations, the TNIE reported.
