Rs 3.99 Lakh Withdrawn By Cyber Fraud From Professor’s Bank Account In Cuttack

Cuttack: In yet another cyber fraud in Twin Cities, a visiting professor of Ravenshaw University, here allegedly lost Rs 3.99 lakh from his bank account.

According to sources in cyber crime police station in Cuttack, the professor received a call from an unknown number on February 28. The caller introduced himself as an officer of BSNL and told the professor that his SIM card of the service provider would be deactivated, if did not recharge it.

In order to prevent the deactivation, the fraudster told the professor to download an app, Team Viewer, and make a payment of Rs 10 in the app. Soon after the professor made the payment in the app, Rs 3.99 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account in four phases without his knowledge.

Later, when the professor checked his bank account, he could know that he was duped by the fraud caller and filed a complaint with the cyber police station in the city.

Due to regular complaints of economic offences committed by the cyber frauds, the Commissionerate Police has been warning the people not to interact with unknown numbers and download suspicious apps.
