Bhubaneswar: The State Government’s insurance scheme for the officials engaged in COVID-19 duty has brought the staff of vehicles outsourced for transport of people coming from outside Odisha under its ambit.
Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has asked the RTOs and Deputy Transport Commissioners to maintain official record of the drivers and helpers of the vehicles requisitioned for carrying those coming to Odisha from border check posts, bust stops and railway stations.
In case any of the transport staff succumbs to the disease after contacting coronavirus on duty, the State Government will pay Rs 50 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased person.
The Government had announced the insurance scheme for private hospital staff, health workers, volunteers, contract and daily wage workers engaged for COVID-19 related works on April 22.
The persons covered under the scheme should not be eligible for insurance coverage as per the guidelines issued by the Government of India.
