Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s love triangle ‘Cocktail 2’ has begun its theatrical run on an encouraging note, collecting over Rs 6 crore on the opening day.
Strong advance bookings and growing word of mouth helped the film attract viewers across key markets, giving it a promising start.
According to trade experts, ‘Cocktail 2’ was released on more than 3,000 screens across India, marking a wide rollout for a film in the romantic drama genre.
By 5 pm on Friday, the film had collected Rs 6.64 crore net domestically, a healthy start considering the struggles faced by romantic dramas at the box office in recent years.
Trade portal Sacnilk reported that the film sold over 1.6 lakh tickets in advance bookings for Day 1, generating Rs 5.57 crore gross.
Including blocked seats that are expected to be converted through spot bookings, the advance booking figure climbs to over Rs 8 crore.
With walk-in audiences adding to the tally, ‘Cocktail 2’ is expected to comfortably surpass the Rs 10-crore net mark on Friday.
Helmed by Homi Adajania, ‘Cocktail 2’ is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit ‘Cocktail’, with a completely different story and characters.
Written by Imtiaz Ali and directed by Homi Adajania, ‘Cocktail’ starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty.
