Mumbai: Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has received a rare honour in the United States, with Los Angeles declaring January 6, 2027 as official ‘Diljit Dosanjh Day’ in recognition of his global cultural impact and contributions to music.
The artist said he was left ‘speechless’ and expressed gratitude for the prestigious recognition.
The recognition was conferred by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez through a formal civic resolution that acknowledged Diljit’s influence extending far beyond music.
It commended his efforts in taking Punjabi culture to international audiences and highlighted how he has helped strengthen the presence of South Asian communities across the world.
Diljit gave fans a glimpse into the memorable occasion by sharing a series of photos and videos from the ceremony on social media.
Clad in a white kurta, pink trousers and his signature turban, the singer appeared visibly moved while accepting the honour.
In one of the videos, he could be seen greeting those present with folded hands and bowing his head in gratitude, reflecting his humility and appreciation.
Reacting to the honour, Diljit said, “My day? I’m speechless, actually. Thank you so much!”
Sharing details of the resolution, he wrote, “Introduced by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, the resolution honours the Indian-born singer, actor, and producer for his significant contributions to globalising Punjabi music and promoting South Asian representation in mainstream American culture.”

The honour comes amid speculation surrounding Diljit’s citizenship status.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the singer-actor acquired American citizenship in 2022 and has reportedly been travelling internationally on a US passport since September that year.
The report further claimed that he uses an e-visa when visiting India.
It also stated that his most recent Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018, while an earlier one had been issued in Zambia.
The report also said that his wife Sandeep Kaur is an American citizen and that a five-bedroom home in California is listed as his residential address in citizenship records.
Diljit, however, has not publicly confirmed or commented on these claims.
On the work front, Diljit features in Imtiaz Ali’s recently-released ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, along with Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari.
Diljit will next be seen in Honey Trehan’s ‘Panjab 95’, a film based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
