New Delhi: Ex-BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, who was sacked after he uploaded a video complaining about quality of food served to the forces, has decided to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in the ensuing elections.
Yadav has announced his candidature from the seat as an Independent candidate.
“My motive is not to win or lose. It is to highlight how this government has failed the forces, especially paramilitary forces. Prime Minister Modi seeks votes in the name of our jawans, but has done nothing for them. Our paramilitary jawans (CRPF men) killed recently in Pulwama were not even given martyr status by this government,” he told reporters.
Yadav, a resident of Rewari in Haryana, said by contesting the elections he would raise the issue of corruption in the forces.
In 2017, a video posted by him on social media, complaining about the quality of food served in the barracks, had gone viral. His action was considered an act of “indiscipline” and he was sacked from service. He had challenged the decision and the case is still in trial stage.
Yadav said he would soon go to Varanasi and start campaigning with the help of ex-servicemen and farmers. “We are building our strategy to target maximum voters,” he said.
