Sahitya Akademi Gives Odia Language A Miss On Its Invitation; Demand For Apology

The invitation is for the 'Festival of Letters' from February 24-29

Bhubaneswar: Odia language is missing from the Sahitya Akademi’s invitation card for the national level literary festival ‘Festival of Letters’ to be held in New Delh. Pointing this out, ‘Bhasha Andolan’, an organisation working for Odia language, said the language had ‘not been treated well.” 

Chairman of Bhasha Andolan and Odisha Nagarik Manch, Pradyumna Satpathy said the invitation card the Sahitya Akademi has got printed for the festival has hurt the sentiments of Odias,

The six-day long literary festival will began on February 24. 

Demanded that the Akademi get it corrected and tender an apology for its mistake, Satpathy said the invitation card is written in all Indian classical languages but Odia. It amounts to a blatant dishonor to Odia language, he added.

Condemning Sahitya Akademi’s move Satpathy has demanded the Akademy get it corrected and tender an apology for its mistake.

Spokesperson of Pujyapuja Sanskruti Suraksha Abhiyan, Arabind Tripathy said the matter has already been taken up with the union minister for culture and tourism and a demand has been made to take stringent action against those who are responsible for downplaying the Odia language.
