Mumbai: There are enough evidence confirming arrest of the right person in the Saif Ali Khan attack case, Additional CP West, Mumbai, Paramjit Dahiya told a presser on Tuesday.
“‘We have found many oral, physical, and technical evidences against the accused… We have caught the right person. Whenever an accusation is arrested, multiple evidences are collected against it. Whether it is face recognition, fingerprint or oral statement…. The IO investigates every evidence stream before filing the chargesheet,” he said.
Dahiya also dispelled reports that the fingerprints collected from Saif’s residence did not match with that of the accused. “We have not received any official report (from CID) on the fingerprints were collected from the crime scene as of this date,”
Dismissing rumours of mishandling or other issues, Dahiya stated that the IO in the case was changed due to “administrative reasons”.
On being questioned over the reports which claimed that Saif was taken to the Lilavati hospital at around 4.11am, the ACP said, “Lilavati Hospital’s CCTV shows that the victim was brought to the hospital at 2.47 am.”
“We did not receive a call from Saif Ali Khan personally. We got this information (about the attack) from the hospital,” he added.
The Mumbai police further stated that the accused resided in Kolkata after sneaking in from Bangladesh.
A police team is carrying out investigations in West Bengal. Statement of a woman, whose Aadhaar card was used by the accused to get a new SIM card, has also been recorded.
Saif was attacked by an intruder on January 16 during an alleged burglary attempt at his residence. He was rushed to the Lilavati hospital in an autorickshaw.
