New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) chairman, Anil Kumar Chaudhary, was assaulted by some men on a road here on Wednesday night, leading to widespread protests in steel plants across the country, including in Rourkela.
Chaudhary was reportedly hit with iron rods while he was on his way back home from office. As per a company statement, his car was hit by another car with four people inside. Police have launched an investigation and have detained two people in connection with the incident.
News agency Reuters quoted a SAIL executive as saying that the incident was not “spontaneous”, indicating a pre-planned operation.
On Thursday, SAIL workers at Rourkela Steel Plant protested the attack on Chaudhury and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
