Mumbai: Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama ‘Maatrubhumi’ has reportedly received government clearance after undergoing changes to its portrayal of China, potentially paving the way for its release as early as next month.
The film, which reportedly revolves around the India-China clash in Galwan, had earlier faced uncertainty over its release amid concerns about its depiction of Chinese forces.
Bollywood Hungama, citing a source, reported that the Information & Broadcasting Ministry is now “satisfied” with the revised version and issued an NOC last week.
The film is also said to have undergone extensive reshoots after the Defence Ministry flagged concerns over its original anti-China positioning.
“The new version of Maatrubhumi is highly altered compared to the original version. Moreover, it now also talks about the relationship between India and China in a positive light,” the source was quoted as saying by the news portal.
The makers of ‘Maatrubhumi’ are yet to officially confirm the development.
However, according to reports, Salman already has a release date in mind.
The source claimed, “Salman Khan is now eyeing November 13. He believes that the post-Diwali period, when people would still be in a celebratory mood, would be apt for the film’s release. However, the censor process is still pending. The makers will soon submit the film to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). If the CBFC clears the film and the process is completed this month, Salman and his team will most probably bring Maatrubhumi to cinemas on November 13. A clearer picture in this regard will emerge in the next 10 days.”
If the reported release plan materialises, ‘Maatrubhumi’ could arrive in theatres a week after Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ Part One.
Backed by Salma Khan and produced under the Salman Khan Films banner, ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace’ is helmed by Apoorva Lakhia and features Chitrangada Singh in a key role.
