Sambalpur: Tension ran high in Sambalpur town on Wednesday, after a group of locals staged a road blockade at Modipada Square in Thelkopada here protesting arrest of three more persons for their alleged involvement in the double murder case of April 2.
Apprehending breach of law and order, five platoons of police force were deployed at the spot. Later, eleven people were detained after they refused to withdraw the blockade despite repeated requests by the police personnel.
As many as seven others, including the prime accused Pandab Mukhi, have already been arrested in connection with the murder case.
One Sujit Nag was chased and allegedly hacked by a group led by Pandab Mukhi, a history-sheeter, near Laxmi Talkies Chhack on Monday morning over past enmity. Nag was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition, but the doctors pronounced him as ‘brought dead’.
Following his death, violence struck Thelkopada as Sujit’s supporters barged into the house of Pandab and reportedly set it on fire. They dragged Pandab’s younger brother Shankar and lynched him. He died on the spot. They also severely thrashed another member of the rival group.
