Samples Test No Bird Flu In Odisha, But Govt Asks People To Be Vigilant

Bhubaneswar: Even as avian influenza or bird flu has not been detected in any of samples tested so far, the State Government on Sunday asked poultry farmers and sellers and people to remain vigilant in case of any unnatural death of birds.

In a notification, the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department said  12,369 samples have been collected and tested for Avian Influenza so far. But not a single sample has tested positive, it added.

However, considering its outbreak in neighbouring states, particularly Madhya Pradesh where it has spread to 13 districts, the department asked the poultry farm owners, meat and egg shop owners and public to remain vigilant and follow maximum hygienic practices.

The department has also requested to report any case of unnatural death of birds in flock or chain to veterinary doctor or Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) or State Control Room on telephone number 0671 2414310 and WhatsApp number 72055 98125.

Meanwhile, CDVO, Khurda has formed five surveillance teams for surveillance of the poultry shops and nearby farms in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation areas.
