In a first of its kind, Cuddalore police in Tamil Nadu has installed sanitary napkin vending machines at 65 locations, including police stations, across the district.
Cuddalore SP Sree Abhinav, while inaugurating the scheme at the district police office, said that the idea originated after a discussion with female police personnel on steps necessary to make the working space better.
By depositing Rs 5 in the vending machine slot, a single biodegradable pad will be available.
Besides police stations and armed reserve forces offices, the facility will be available in mobile toilets for female cops.
Women police personnel expressed their gratitude and relief.
“If we get periods during our duty time in public spaces, we seek help from any of the nearby houses. This creates unnecessary tension which affects our work. This scheme which has been introduced now is highly beneficial for us,” DSP K Shanthi said.
