Bhubaneswar: The Sapigen Biologix Vaccine plant, coming up in Bhubaneswar, will start commercial production of a host of vaccines by May.
5T and Nabin Odisha chairman VK Pandian visited the plant being established at Odisha Biotech Park in Andharua of the city on Sunday.
He went around all sub-units and interacted with the management and employees and instructed the government agencies to assist in commissioning of the plant within 3 months. The plant is coming up with an investment of Rs 1500 crore, led by Dr Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotech Park fame.
The state-of-the-art plant, which is in its final phase of commissioning, will have a capacity to produce 2.4 crore doses of different vaccines per day. With its full capacity, it will be the biggest vaccine producing plant in the country.
The facility plans to produce more than 15 different vaccines for diseases like cholera, malaria, etc. The vaccines to be produced in Bhubaneswar plant will be supplied to different parts of the world, establishing Odisha’s name in the field of biotechnology.
Pandian assured all help from the government and also informed about the recently approved biotechnology policy, which has been approved by state Cabinet. He expressed confidence that with this large anchor manufacturing plant, many complementary biotechnology related product companies will be attracted to the Odisha Biotech Park.
