Sonepur: In a shocking incident, the husband of a Sarpanch was allegedly hacked to death in Gajabandh panchayat under Dunguripali block in Odisha’s Sonepur district.
The deceased, identified as Ballabh Kheti was a former sarpanch of Gajabandh and husband of sitting Sarpanch Basanti Kheti.
As per preliminary information, Ballabh was returning home on Thursday night when unidentified miscreants attacked him with sharp edged weapons near Pandarapali village. The attackers fled after leaving the man grievously injured.
Villagers later found him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) at Dunguripali where doctors declared him dead.
After getting information about the incident, a team from Rampur Police Station reached the hospital and launched an investigation. The body was sent for postmortem
Meanwhile, the Police have detained two individuals for questioning and are on the lookout for at least two more suspects in connection with the murder.
While the motive behind the murder remains unclear, the incident has triggered panic in the area. Police have stepped up their inquiry, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
