Satya Pal Malik Sits On Dharna At Police Station; Know Why

New Delhi: Former Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik sat on a dharna at a police station here on Saturday afternoon.

Malik, who received a summons from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case a day earlier, was protesting after he had an argument with Delhi Police personnel over meeting his supporters at a park.

Around 250 people from Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh had gathered at Malik’s house to show solidarity with him.

According to police, Malik was holding a meeting at a park in RK Puram with farmer leaders without seeking permission, following which he was questioned.

Malik claimed he told police that he had called the attendees for lunch, but because there was not enough space in his house, he led them to a park to eat.

Some of the leaders were then detained. Malik entered the police station purportedly to get the detained leaders released.

Once they were released, Malik and his supporters left the police station.

Delhi Police took to Twitter to clarify that Malik was not detained.

“False information is being spread on social media handles regarding detention of Sh. Satyapal Malik, Ex. Gov. Whereas, he himself has arrived at PS R K Puram along with his supporters. He has been informed that he is at liberty to leave at his own will,” Delhi Police wrote.

On CBI calling him, Malik told PTI that the probe agency has asked for his presence at its Akbar Road guesthouse in Delhi for ‘certain clarifications’.

“They want certain clarifications for which they want my presence. I am going to Rajasthan, so I have given them dates from April 27 to 29 when I am available,” he said.

Malik, who claimed in an explosive interview to The Wire that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to remain silent over alleged lapses in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, said he stands by the truth.

“I have exposed the sins of some people by speaking the truth. Maybe that’s why I have been called. I am the son of a farmer, I will not panic. I stand by the truth,” he tweeted.

Reacting to Malik’s claims, Union Home Minster Amit Shah asked why he was mum when he was the J & K governor.
