Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Governor Satyapal Malik passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 79.
The veteran leader breathed his last at around 1.10 pm at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment for kidney-related complications since May and was on dialysis, reported news agency ANI.
A three-time Parliamentarian and former Union Minister of State, Malik was the last Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. Coincidentally, it was on August 5 in 2019 during his tenure that Article 370 was abrogated, revoking the state’s special status. Today marks the sixth anniversary of that landmark decision.
He was later appointed Governor of Goa and subsequently served as the Governor of Meghalaya until October 2022.
He also held additional charge as the Governor of Odisha from March 21, 2018, to May 28, 2018, while serving as the Governor of Bihar.
