Moscow: A Russian drone strike on a railway station in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy wounded at least 30 people, AFP reported on Saturday quoting President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky described the strike on Shostka station, around 50 kilometres from the Russian border, as ‘savage’.
“So far, we know of at least 30 victims, including passengers and railway staff,” Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian President posted a video on X which shows a train carriage engulfed in flames with twisted metal and busted windows.
“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. And this is terror the world must not ignore. Every day Russia takes people’s lives. And only strength can make them stop. We’ve heard resolute statements from Europe and America – and it’s high time to turn them all into reality, together with everyone who refuses to accept murder and terror as normal. Lip service is not enough now. Strong action is needed,” Zelensky added.

Ukraine’s railway infrastructure has been repeatedly targeted by Russia since the invasion in February 2022.
In a fresh wave of overnight strikes by Russian army, electricity was cut off to 50,000 households in the northern Chernigiv region.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s army claimed to have struck a major oil refinery in Russia’s northwestern Leningrad region.
