New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended appointment of Dr Akshaya Kumar Mishra, the judicial officer, as the Judge of the Orissa High Court.
The apex court, in a notification on October 31, 2018,said that the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court on May 18, 2018, had recommended the name of Satyanarayan Mishra, Bibhu Prasad Routray, Gautam Sharma and Dr Akshaya Kumar Mishra for elevation to the High Court with the concurrence of the Chief Minister and the Governor of Odisha.
To assess the merit and suitability of the above-named recommendees for elevation to the High Court, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph had carefully scrutinized the material placed on record, including the observations made by the Department of Justice.
The Collegium, during interaction with Dr Akshaya Kumar Mishra, considered him suitable for elevation for appointment as a Judge of the Orissa High Court.
“In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Dr Akshaya Kumar Mishra, Judicial Officer, be appointed as a Judge of the Orissa High Court against the service vacancy which occurred on January 23, 2015,” the notification said.
While observing that the three other recommendees, Satyanarayan Mishra, Bibhu Prasad Routray and Gautam Sharma, do not qualify the prevailing norms of eligibility, the Collegium sent back the proposal to the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court for reconsideration by the present High Court Collegium at the appropriate time for its recommendation.
