Bhubaneswar: The Telangana-based Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) will sign two preliminary agreements with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) here on Thursday (December 18) for setting up 4,900 megawatt capacity thermal and green energy projects in Odisha.
In a statement released on Tuesday, outgoing SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Balaram announced that the company plans to build a 2,400 MW (3×800 MW) ultra-supercritical thermal power plant near the Naini coal block at Chhendipada in Angul. The facility will serve as a captive power plant, utilizing coal extracted from the block for power generation.
Additionally, the state-run miner intends to develop 2,500 MW of green energy capacity in the state, which would include 1,000 MW of ground-mounted solar power plants, 500 MW of floating solar projects, 500 MW of pumped storage hydropower, and 500 MW of wind energy installation.
Notably, the SCCL, jointly owned by the state government and the Centre, officially commenced operations at the coal block in April this year, almost nine years after being allotted the mine May 2016 by the Union Ministry of Coal. Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had then urged the Odisha CM Mohan Majhi to allot suitable land for enabling the SCCL to establish 2×800 MW Thermal Power Project (TPP) in the vicinity of Naini coal mine.
