Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission has issued a series of notifications, announcing the schedule for by-elections to various rural local body posts, including Zilla Parishad members, sarpanchs and ward members.
Election to five Zilla Parishad seats in Kendrapada (2), Keonjhar (2) and Sambalpur (1) along with voting to elect 43 sarpanchs, 40 Panchayat samiti members and 272 ward members across multiple districts is set for June 23.
The process will begin once notices are issued at block, panchayat, and ward levels at 10 am on May 22. Nomination filing is open on May 26, 28, 29, 30, and 31 from 11 am to 3 pm. Sarpanch candidates will submit nominations at block offices, while ward member candidates will file at panchayat offices.
Nomination scrutiny is scheduled for June 2, followed by the release of the valid candidate list. Candidates can withdraw nominations until June 4 (3 pm). The final candidate list will be displayed at panchayat offices.
Polling will be held on June 23 from 7 am to 1 pm at designated polling stations, with vote counting on June 24 starting at 8 am in block offices.
