Bhubaneswar: Students of Classes 1 to 12 will soon study from completely new textbooks with the Odisha government planning to overhaul the school curriculum as part of comprehensive education sector reforms.
Responding to a query from BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain in the Odisha Assembly, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said that the current syllabus for Classes 1–12 in all schools under the department will be completely revised. The preparations are still underway, and the new curriculum and textbooks will be rolled out in a phased manner, he clarified.
The main objective of this initiative is to introduce timely reforms in the education system and ensure quality education for students.
Sources indicate that the revised curriculum will largely follow the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) pattern to bring Odisha’s syllabus in line with national standards. A high-level committee, chaired by Prof Nityananda Pradhan, has already been assigned the task to redesign the curriculum for Classes 1 to 8.
