Jajpur: In view of the prevailing flood situation and severe waterlogging, schools across Jajpur district in Odisha will remain closed on Tuesday, August 18, as a precautionary measure.
According to an office order issued by the District Education Officer (DEO), classes in all government, government-aided and private schools will remain suspended for the day. The order applies to elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and Odisha Model Adarsha Vidyalayas (OMAVs).
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in view of the ongoing flood situation and the possibility of further heavy rainfall in the district.
However, school premises will remain open and available for rescue and rehabilitation operations, if required. Schools may be utilised as centres to facilitate relief, rescue and emergency response measures in the event of any flood-related exigency.
It may be noted that vast areas in several North Odisha districts including Bhadrak, Baleshwar and Jajpur were affected by fresh floods triggered by heavy rain in the state.
Around five lakh people in six districts of the state have been affected by the floods.
