Balangir: In a tragic incident, a Physical Education Teacher (PET) at Malmanda village school in Odisha’s Balangir district died after being run over by the Puri-Durg Express train on Monday.
As per information, the incident took place near the railway gate close to Balangir-Sudpara gas godown in the morning. The deceased has been identified Debi Prasad Rout (58).
Sources said Rout went to the site by car and suddenly ran towards the railway track. As he moved onto the track, the train hit him, killing him on the spot. The incident has sparked discussions of possible suicide.
Locals said Rout’s daughter had recently got married. However, the exact reason behind his extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
A team of Government Railway Police (GRP) visited the spot, recovered the body from the railway track, and initiated an investigation.
The body has been sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Further details are awaited as the police continue their probe.
