Bhubaneswar: The three-day 18th Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav ended on a rhythmic note on Thursday with scintillating performances by artistes from different parts of the country.

The second evening of the mahotsav, on Wednesday, was a beautiful blend of Indian classical and folkdance forms. Praveen Kumar & Group of Chithkala School of Dance, Bangalore, performed Bharatnatyam, which was composed by Dr. M Balamuralikrishna and choreographed by P. Praveen Kumar.

Kathak by Rekha Mehra & Group of Urvashi Dance & Cultural Society, New Delhi, was choreographed by Dr Rekha Mehra and Barun Banerjee while music was composed by Pratip Banerjee and Shiv Shankar Ray.

The last performance of the evening was Prahallada Natak by Gajendra
Panda & Group of Tridhara Dance Academy from Ganjam, Odisha. Prahallada
Natak based on the Narasimha incarnation of Lord Vishnu and has been
conceived and composed as a highly stylised form of theatre that contains
both the elements of Natyadharma and Lakadharma. The dance was choreographed by Guru Gajendra Panda, music by Guru Ramahari Das and rhythm by Guru Dhaneswar Swain.

President, Orissa Dance Academy,  Satyananda Mishra; eminent Odissi danseuse, Kumkum Mohanty; Director, Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Ranjan Kumar Das; Joint Secretary, Tourism Department, Puja Mishra; Joint Secretary, Tourism Department, Ellora Bharati Jena; General Manager, OTDC Ltd, Santanu Kumar Mohanty and Guru Aruna Mohanty, Secretary, Orissa Dance Academy and Guru
Ileana Citaristi, Secretary, Art Vision were present.

Jointly organised by Department of Tourism and Orissa Dance Academy in association with Art Vision, at the foothills of Dhauli Shanti Stupa, Bhubaneswar, the festival was Live streamed on DD-Bharat and Odisha Tourism Facebook, Twitter and Youtube page.

This year’s Guru Gangadhar Pradhan Smruti Samman Award 2022 was presented to Guru Durga Charan Ranvir, eminent Odissi dance exponent; Laxmikanta Palit, renowned music composer and singer Pt Nityananda Misra. Sanskrit Scholar and poet and Somdutt Behura, promoter of Odissi in USA for their lifetime achievement in the field of dance and music.

On the inaugural evening; Manipuri dance was staged by Bimbabati Devi and group from Manipuri Nartanalaya, Kolkata. Their presentation was choreographed by Bimbavati Devi.

It was followed by Odissi Dance by the artistes of Nrutya Naivedya, Bhubaneswar led by Guru Pravat Swain. The dance was choreographed by Guru Pravat Swain and rhythm by Guru Dhaneswar Swain.

The last presentation was Contemporary Martial Arts by students of Sadhya – a unit of performing arts, New Delhi led by Satosh Nair.

Development Commissioner-cum-ACS, Pradeep Kumar Jena; Additional Chief Secretary, Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Madhu Sudan Padhi; Additional Secretary, Tourism Department, Rina Mohapatra attended the first evening events.
