Balasore: A man was killed and another critically injured after a vehicle of West Bengal MLA Gautam Chowdhuri dashed against their scooter in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place on National Highway No. 16 near Jamujhadi in the district when the car of the MLA from Howrah (Uttar) Assembly constituency was proceeding towards West Bengal from Puri.
Locals said the car, which was moving at a high speed, hit the scooter, leaving two persons grievously injured. The injured were immediately rushed to Simulia Hospital, where one of them was declared dead.
The deceased has been identified as Radhakanta Lenka of Sajanpur in Sora area. The injured person, who is undergoing treatment at Simulia Hospital, is said to be related to the deceased.
However, the MLA and his family members who were travelling in the vehicle narrowly escaped the accident.
After getting information, a team from Simulia police station visited the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
