Scrapping Policy: Odisha Govt To Waive Taxes On Old Vehicles; Know Details
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to encourage the people to opt for electric vehicles in place of old ones, the Odisha government has decided to provide incentives to the vehicle owners.
The government will waive taxes and fines imposed on the vehicles older than 15 years for a year under the Orissa Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1975. The vehicle owners have to sell their old vehicles at registered vehicle scrapping centres to avail the benefits. But the notification has not made it mandatory for the vehicle owners, according to a news agency.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had issued a notification in this regard on September 13 last year. But the state government implemented it from February 3.
Earlier, the government issued an order to scrap its vehicles which are older than 15 years by March 31. Principal secretary, Commerce and Transport department Usha Padee has directed all departments to scrap their vehicles at the registered scrapping centres by schedule date and submit their reports.
