Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday traced the modern fashion statements to depiction in sculptures on Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the first-ever National Creators Award at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said one can find that the people of ancient times in Odisha also had knowledge about fashion and complicated designs of clothings.
“Today people think a mini skirt is a sign of modernity and so is a purse hanging from the arms of a woman. If you go to Konark, you will find stone sculptures of women with the same attire on the walls of this centuries-old temple. One can see a sculpture of a mini skirt-wearing girl with her purse hanging from her arm,” he said.
“It means, hundreds of years ago, even a sculptor had the knowledge of fashion. It means we can take the diversities of India to the entire world,” he added.
During the event, the Prime Minister gave away awards in 20 categories including Best Storyteller, Celebrity Creator of The year, and Best Creator for Social Change.
He expressed confidence that the National Creator Awards will establish a strong influence in the times to come by energising the new era and respecting the creativity of the youth and the sensitivity towards the aspects of daily life.
“In future, the National Creator Awards will become a huge source of inspiration for content creators and create an identity for their work. The association of more than 2 lakh creative minds for the event is creating an identity for the nation itself,” Modi said.
