Mumbai: Security was heightened along Maharashtra’s Raigad coast on Monday after a “suspicious” boat was spotted near Revdanda coast.
The boat, spotted by Indian Navy’s radar on Sunday night, was “possibly a Pakistani fishing vessel,” PTI reported quoting officials. It was located around two nautical miles off Revdanda’s Korlai coast.
The vessel’s identity can be confirmed after it is intercepted.
Raigad Police, Quick Response Team (QRT), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Navy and Coast Guard personnel reached the spot and launched a massive search operation.
Heavy rain and strong winds have affected efforts to locate and reach the boat.
Raigad Superintendent of Police (SP) Anchal Dalal and other senior police officials tried to reach the boat using a barge, but were forced to return due to adverse weather conditions.
A large police contingent has been deployed in the area and overall security in the district was heightened as a precautionary measure.
