Bhubaneswar: After a brief spell of nor’wester-induced heavy rain, heatwave is likely to return to Odisha this week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail across the state with gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-6°C during the next 4 days with no large change thereafter. There will be no large change in the night temperature during the next two days, following which, it is likely to rise by 2-3°C in the subsequent 3 days.
The weather agency has sounded yellow warning of heatwave for one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Sonepur district on March 29.
According to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha from March 29-31 during which the day temperature may soar past 40°C. He also highlighted the gradual rise in the day temperature in Jharsuguda at 11.30 am between March 22 and March 25. The industrial town recorded 24°C on March 22, 29.6°C on March 23, 32.4°C on March 24 and 34°C on March 25, he informed.
