Baleshwar: In the second robbery within 24 hours, Rs 10 lakh was looted from Odisha Grameen Bank branch, located at Khaprapada under Baliapal police station limits in Baleshwar district, police said.
Four to six unidentified men arrived in an SUV and entered the bank posing as customers. They allegedly brandished guns and other weapons, threatened the bank staff and customers present at the branch and looted the cash before fleeing.
The bank manager and some employees tried to resist the robbers, but were pushed back and assaulted.
According to the staff, the manager sustained severe injuries and had to be admitted to the government hospital at Baliapal for treatment.
Baliapal police personnel rushed to the bank on learning about the robbery. They spoke to employees and eyewitnesses to gather information on the incident.
An investigation has been initiated, with the immediate focus being to identify the robbers and arrest them.
On Monday, an armed miscreant allegedly looted Rs 2.37 lakh from the Kirei branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in Sundaragada district.
