Second Life: Delhi Man Who Was Shot 4 Times In Ukraine Coming Home Tomorrow
New Delhi: Every Indian who has been or are in the process of being evacuated from Ukraine are thanking their lucky stars. But none more so than Harjot Singh, who was shot four times in Ukraine while trying to get out of the war-torn country.
Harjot, who is from Delhi’s Chhatarpur area, had to be hospitalized in Kyiv after sustaining bullet injuries while trying to reach Lviv. Now, he’s ready to return home on Monday.
“Harjot Singh, an Indian national who sustained bullet injuries in Kyiv and lost his passport, will return to India with us tomorrow,” the minister tweeted.
Three days after Russia launched military operations against Ukraine, 31-year-old Harjot and his two friends tried to escape from Kyiv, but failed in their mission. As they looked to return to their homes, they were caught in firing and Harjot sustained multiple injuries, Hindustan Times reported.
IT specialist Harjot, who was in Ukraine for higher studies, said after regaining consciousness that he wanted to start afresh after getting a new life.
The Union government will bear the cost of Harjot’s medical treatment.
“We are trying to ascertain his exact medical status, including his readiness to be able to move,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
