New York: Amid the US Navy’s blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump on Tuesday hinted at a second round of talks with Iran.
Trump told the New York Post that officials from the US and Iran could meet in the next two days in Islamabad.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump said in reference to Islamabad’s Hotel Serena, which hosted the first round of talks on April 11.
“It’s more likely, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a great job,” Trump added possibly referring to Asim Munir.
The marathon first session lasted about 20 hours, but didn’t yield results finally.
Pakistan, which has been at the forefront of mediating between the US and Iran, proposed hosting a second round of talks after last weekend’s failed meeting.
Associated Press reported, quoting two Pakistani officials, that the initial talks were part of an ongoing diplomatic process rather than a one-off effort.
The war, which broke out after US-Israeli strikes killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran on February 28, is in the middle of a two-week ceasefire.
However, tensions have been rising since US Navy started a blockade in Strait of Hormuz from Monday.
