Bhadrak: Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC were relaxed in Bhadrak town for six hours till 6 pm on Friday to allow smooth conduct of Kalash Sobhayatra of Ram Navami.
More than 36 platoons of police forces have been deployed in the town to avoid any untoward incident during the celebrations, an official informed.
Section 144 has been in force in the town since March 17 to thwart possible breach of peace and harmony in the locality.
The Sriram Navami Mahayajna Committee had recently filed a writ petition before Orissa High Court challenging the restrictions imposed by the district administration on Kalash Sobhayatra and Nagar Sankirtan held in the town every year. However, the court issued orders in favour of the district administration’s decision on Thursday.
The move for imposing restriction on Ram Navami celebration came in wake of the communal unrest that had taken place on April 5, 2017 during a procession. More than 30 persons were arrested and several houses and business establishments torched during communal violence that erupted over circulation of objectionable remarks on Hindu deities on social media.
