Srinagar: Security forces have recovered the remains of a Pakistani terrorist, identified as Yasir, who was killed during Operation Ashdar, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday.
The recovery was carried out during a joint operation involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) Doda, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). A night-enabled M4 carbine rifle was also recovered during the operation, according to the police, according to media reports.
J&K Police had earlier, on September 5, identified Yasir as a Pakistani national associated with the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. However, a subsequent security forces’ post on X described him as a Pakistani national linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Following the terrorist’s elimination, security forces issued a warning to anti-national elements, stating, “You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide.”
The latest recovery comes amid stepped-up intelligence-based surveillance and joint security operations across Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said the killing of a foreign terrorist is another setback for terror networks seeking to disrupt peace in the Union Territory.
An investigation is underway to establish Yasir’s local links and ascertain his activities in the region.
Separately, security forces are conducting an anti-terror operation in the upper reaches of Seoj Dhar in Bhaderwah, Doda, following reports of suspected terrorist movement in the area.
Earlier, on September 4, the Indian Army had neutralised a terrorist during Operation Ashdar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. The Army’s Chinar Corps said troops recovered an AK rifle along with other war-like stores during the subsequent search operation.
The operation in Ashdar Gali, Budgam, was launched jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF after security forces received specific intelligence inputs. Search operations in the area were continuing.
