Manesar: The recovery of the body of a woman of foreign origin, right in the middle of the busy Delhi-Jaipur Highway at Gurugram’s Manesar has led to considerable tension in the area.
The woman, who is yet to be identified, was in a semi-naked condition, pointing to possible sexual assault. The body has been sent for post mortem analysis to ascertain facts. The police, meanwhile, are scanning CCTV footage of the area.
“We reacted to a PCR call around 6 am on Sunday and reached the spot. The body was lying near the IMT Chowk. It seems that she is of African origin. However, nothing certain can be said at the moment. There were no clothes on the lower part of her body. The clothes on the upper portion were also tattered. This points to sexual assault,” an official said.
The police suspect that the woman was raped and murdered elsewhere and her body dumped on the highway. The body was either pushed out of a moving vehicle or thrown off a flyover, it is being suspected.
“Her photograph is being circulated to hotels and guest houses. There are also a number of students from African countries who live in Delhi and Gurugram. The photograph will also be circulated among them. Embassies and consulates will also be contacted. The matter is being accorded top priority,” the official added.
All police stations in the National Capital Region (NCR) have been notified to keep a lookout for any missing complaints.
“Once her identity is established, it will be easier to crack the case. The CCTV footage may also throw up some clues,” he said.
