Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer from Odisha Rashmi Ranjan Swain retired as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir on September 30.
Swain’s tenure as DGP lasted 55 days although he officiated as in-charge DGP for nine months.
Nalin Prabhat, DGP (law and order), has taken over as the new DGP.
Swain, a 1991-batch IPS officer is believed to have called the shots in the security establishment after his appointment as the CID chief in 2020 months after the scrapping of special status.
He was known for his hard line and a stickler of rules.
The Odia IPS officer was accorded a grand farewell by colleagues who hugged the top cop and pulled his vehicle by hand to complete his last journey from office.
On the occasion, Swain said, “I was given the opportunity by the government to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This opportunity does not come to all. I am grateful to the government and to my colleagues and other security partners.”
