Bhubaneswar: Seven districts came under the red zone as the daily COVID-19 caseload surged past the 4000-mark on Monday. The state logged 4445 new cases and four fatalities in the last 24 hours.

According to the Health Department website, the districts are Sundargarh (active cases – 4735), Khurda (3841), Nuapada (1377), Cuttack (1303), Kalahandi (1255), Bargarh (1236) and Sambalpur (1408).

Sundargarh reported the highest of 722 cases on Monday followed by Khurda (587), Nuapada (437), Kalahandi (273), Cuttack (251), Sambalpur (241), Bargarh (178).

Night curfew from 6 pm and weekend shutdown are being imposed in urban areas of five of these districts – Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Nupada, Bargarh and Sambalpur. Similarly, night curfew is also being enforced in urban areas of Khudra and Cuttack from 9 pm, limiting the movement of people to break the infection chain.

Apart from other districts bordering Chhattisgarh, urban pockets of Balasore, Puri and Nabarang continue to remain as areas of concern for the state administration with active cases in these districts nearing the 1000-mark.

Odisha now has 24,568 active cases.

The state has been reporting a daily positivity rate of over 10 per cent for the past few days. It was 10.63 per cent on Sunday. The percentage increase in the infections in the past 14 days has been 675.74. The state had reported 573 new cases on April 5.
