Severe Cold Wave Likely In Odisha’s Jharsuguda & Sundargarh; Govt Issues Preventive Guidelines
Bhubaneswar: The state government on Thursday directed the collectors and municipal commissioners of Jharsuguda and Sundargarh to take preventive steps in light of severe cold wave conditions likely to prevail in the two districts.
In an official message to the officers, Special Relief Commissioner said as per the mid-day bulletin of India Meteorological Department on the day, isolated cold wave to severe cold wave is likely to prevail in the two districts from Thursday to Saturday morning.
Since cold related illness among the people and livestock is likely during the period, the SRC advised the people to stay indoor during night and avoid exposure to cold. Movement on two-wheelers and open vehicles must be avoided and necessary safety measures taken while using electrical and gas heating devices.
The SRC requested the collectors school buildings, community centres and other buildings should be opened to be used for shelter for homeless and needy people. A report mentioning the number of such buildings should be sent to the office of SRC on daily basis.
Meanwhile, the SRC directed the police and transport officials to take necessary steps for controlled plying of vehicles on highways during dense fog. The IMD has forecast dense fog in Angul, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri and Kandhamal districts on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
