Severe Heatwave To Scorch Odisha Today, Check Temp At 8.30AM
Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave is likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Anugul and Nayagarh districts on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department has also issued yellow warning of heatwave conditions for one or two places in Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Boudh.
Hot and humid weather condition may also prevail at many places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati during the next 24 hours.
While orange warning has been issued for two days, yellow warning continues till April 21.
The mercury level is also likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C at many places in the state during next 24 hours due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. Consequently, the day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C or above at many places of the state and likely to be above normal by 3-5°C in some areas during next two days. The mercury is likely to touch 43°C in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for some places in southern Odisha – Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam – on April 20-21.

On Wednesday, 28 places in the state recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more with Talcher being the hottest at 43.2°C followed by Nuapada (43°C), Boudh and Paralakhemundi at 42.8°C each, Angul and Nayagarh at 42.7°C each and Baripada at 42.6°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 41.7°C and 41.5°C, respectively.
