Bengaluru: Janata Dal Secular (JDS) leader and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s son HD Revanna was on Thursday granted interim bail in a sexual assault case.
A case had been registered against the MLA from Holenarasipura and former Karnataka minister for sexually assaulting a female house help. Revanna’s son and JDS MP Prajwal Revanna was also named in the complaint.
The main bail plea will be heard on Friday.
The 66-year-old Revanna was released from prison two days ago after a Special Court for Elected Representatives granted him conditional bail in a woman abduction case linked to sexual abuse charges against his son.
The woman stated in her complaint that she was sexually abused and later allegedly abducted to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by Congress-led state government, arrested Revanna on May 5 in the kidnapping case.
Trouble for the family started when Prajwal’s explicit videos, allegedly showing sexual abuse, went viral. The Hassan MP, who is seeking re-election to Lok Sabha, left India on April 27 — the day after polling in his constituency.
Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice against the 33-year-old Prajwal.
JDS patriarch Deve Gowda said on Thursday he won’t be celebrating his birthday on May 18 due to the difficult situation the family is in.
