Mumbai: Riding the crest of success following the roaring success iof his comeback film ‘Pathaan’, Shah Rukh Khan has scaled another significant peak.
The Bollywood Badshah topped the TIME100 poll in which readers voted for those individuals they felt most deserved a spot on the magazine’s annual list of the most influential people.
In a poll featuring internationally eminent stars and figures like Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, Mark Zuckerberg, Michelle Yeoh, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Indian megastar got 1.2 million votes, which amounts to 4% of the total votes.
‘Pathaan’, King Khan’s first major release since ‘Zero’ hit the theatres in 2018, proved that his popularity hadn’t waned even at the age of 57 as the Siddharth Anand-directed and Yash Raj Films-produced 2023 action thriller collected over Rs 1000 crore at the box office worldwide.
A close second behind Shah Rukh were the Iranian women protesting for greater freedom from the country’s Islamic regime with 3% of the vote. They have been spearheading protests since September 16 last year after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was detained for failing to cover her hair properly with hijab. She died three days after collapsing at a police station.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were third and fourth, respectively, with 1.9% of the votes.
Argentine football superstar and World Cup winner Messi bagged fifth spot with 1.8% of the votes.
