Shooting Star: Avani Lekhara First Indian Woman To Win Two Paralympics Medals

Tokyo: After a couple of lean days, India bagged two medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 on Friday with 18-year-old Praveen Kumar winning the silver in Men’s High Jump. Praveen recorded the best jump of 2.07 m.

Young shooting sensation Avani Lekhara took her medal tally to two by winning the bronze medal in Women’s 50 m Rifle Shooting. Earlier, the 19-year-old Avani became India’s first female Paralympic gold medallist by winning the 10 m air rifle event.

With her bronze win on Friday, Avani has become the first Indian woman to win 2 Paralympic medals.

India’s current medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympics has swelled to 12, including 2 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze.

Earlier in the day, Manoj Sarkar (MS SL3), Tarun Dhillon (MS SL4), Suhas Yathiraj (MS SL4) and shuttlers Pramod Bhagat-Palak Kohli (XD SL3-SU5) all booked their spot in semi-finals of their respective classifications.

Meanwhile, archers Harvinder Singh and Vishal Chikara have qualified for the pre-quarterfinals of the Men’s Recurve event.
