Ganjam: Ganjam district administration on Tuesday ordered for strict compliance to social distancing norms at market places in the district to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The regulation has a penal provision of fine up to Rs 5000 and closure of shops for 15 days for the first violation of COVID social distancing norms.
The shopkeepers must ensure social distancing of two metres or six feet between customers and not allow gathering on their premises. An FIR will be lodged and shops closed for one month if found violating the norms for the second time.
There will be no vehicular movement in Ganjam except agriculture, goods, health purposes.
The law has also made it mandatory for shop owners, their employees and buyers to wear masks. Owners of all shops have been directed to inform police if a buyer is not adhering to social distancing norms.
If shopkeepers do not report such violations and give excuses that customers are not maintaining social distancing, then they will be equally liable for disobeying the regulations. Shopkeepers have been asked not to sell commodities to buyers without masks.
