Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday directed shops and commercial establishments to display their signboards in Odia language.
At a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner R. Balakrishana, it was decided to ensure enforcement of the same and that all the government institutions would display signboards prominently in Odia in their respective offices and institutions apart from any other languages, if any, within 15 days.
Balakrishnan asked the the Housing and Urban Development department to launch a special drive for display boards in Odia in all ULBs.
The meeting also decided to launch of an online portal to receive complaints from the general public about non-display of signboards in Odia language.
In May this year, the Odisha Assembly had passed the Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments (amendment) Bill 2018 making Odia language mandatory on signboards on shops and business establishments in the state.
