Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the Unit-I market in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning, reducing at least two shops to ashes and causing extensive damage to other structures.
According to sources, the fire erupted in one of the shops and the flames quickly spread to the neighbouring outlets.
While two shops were completely destroyed in the incident, there was no report of injury to anyone.
On being informed, teams from Bhubaneswar Fire Station reached the spot promptly. Two units were pressed into service and the firefighters completely extinguished the blaze after a successful operation. The timely action prevented the flames from spreading to other shops and stalls in the market.
According to the Assistant Fire Officer, Bhubaneswar, two shops — one grocery store and a khali (empty) shop — were affected in the incident. No casualty was reported in the incident.
